The decorative art collection has been built up steadily over the years and includes some fine examples of earthenware, stoneware and porcelain from the principal English factories as well as Sussex ware and regional contemporary studio pottery.

An insight into the collection

The collection dates from 1600 and includes some medieval and is particularly strong in nineteenth century wares and commemorative and souvenir pieces.

The small but very fine collection of English eighteenth and nineteenth century drinking glasses was mainly developed under the curatorship of Len Bickerton who was an authority on the subject.

The Steyning Punch Bowl c1790, with its engraved decoration, is a special feature of the collection
