Geology Collection

Learn more about the collection

Our geological material is vast and varied, having been obtained over the last century from the nearby beach, chalk downs and further afield.  Sussex has an unusually rich geological landscape and our collections reflect this, ranging from huge chalk ammonites to gemstones from the Gooch collection.  Most of our fossil collection dates from the Cretaceous period, with some of the best examples collected by E C Martin from the Upper Chalk.  If you would like to delve deeper into the geological collections feel free to contact us to arrange a viewing of the material not on display!
