Worthing Museum presents the Autumn Lecture Series.

Our hugely popular lecture series returns on Thursday evenings this October & November. An intimate season of talks with our archaeology curator James Sainsbury and guest speakers. Explore a wide range of subjects from Palaeolithic mega-floods and Stone Age religion to the stories of famous local landmarks, Norman invaders and World War I. This year we'll also have two special lectures looking at fascinating elements of our museum collections - a newly discovered Victorian naval journal and our extensive, hidden medals collection. Ticket price includes a glass of wine or tea/coffee.

A Victorian Naval Odyssey: John Palmer and his unique log book revealed
Join local historian Beth Collard for the first ever lecture on this unique naval log book from our collections. Discovered by Beth deep within our archives before the pandemic, the book follows Mr John Palmer, a navigator in the Royal Navy from 1860-1884, charting his career and travels from Cambridge to Alexandria, Hawaii and beyond. This talk will be illustrated with unique photographs taken by John, in addition to his beautiful watercolours of ship’s plans and navigation charts from around the world.
